Community Learning

Who are we?

The Community Learning Service works alongside communities and partners to ensure individuals, groups and families reach their potential through lifelong learning, mutual self-help and strong community organisations. Our work is focused on supporting people so they can bring about change in their lives.

What do we do?

Through Adult Learning provision from 16 years + who have left school education and Youth Services provision for 11yrs+.

The six areas which are being delivered are:

  • Digital Skills – ability to access and skills to use technology
  • Core Skills – skills for learning, life and work
  • Health – Physical and mental wellbeing support
  • Your voice –have a say in the way CLD is delivered in Argyll
  • Community Learner Offer –Improve the offering of CLD opportunities in Argyll and Bute
  • Better Partnership working

We have Youth Services and Adult Learning in the following areas:

Live Argyll Youth Workers work with young people to support them in:

  • Building self-esteem and confidence
  • Developing the ability to manage personal and social relationships
  • Learning and developing new skills
  • Increase knowledge to consider risk and make reasoned decisions
  • HAVING FUN !!!

Youth Action Groups

Offers young people the chance to express their opinions, have their say on issues that matter to them and work to improve their community for the benefit of young people. Youth Action Groups from across Argyll and Bute meet regularly to do exchanges and joint pieces of work.

Friday Night Sports

In partnership with various organisations in some areas, we run Friday night sports, to ensure that young people have a safe space to take part in organised activities.

Health & Wellbeing Groups

Workers deliver a variety of groups as directed by the young people in their areas coving topics including healthy cooking, exercise, mental health and wellbeing

School Holiday G.I.V.E Progammes

We offer school holiday programmes for young people 11+ which are a mixture volunteering in the community and trips, offering young people the chance to have fun, experience new things and learn new skills.

Area Wide Events

Live Argyll Youth Team organise annual events such as the “Big Day Out” where young people can get together have fun and make new friends and the bi-annual AB Awards ceremony celebrating the successes of our young people.

Scottish Youth Parliament   

The Scottish Youth Parliament is the national youth led organisation with democratically elected members. liveArgyll Youth Work supports our MSYP’s to listen to the issues that are important to young people and campaign for change.

Wider Achievement & Accredited Awards

Live Argyll Youth Work delivers SQA Awards to young people at the appropriate learning levels (level 3 & 4) either as individual or stand alone units or a full awards. The following are examples of what award units can be delivered: Wellbeing, Employability, Personal Development, Self and work, working with others and Communication. SQA write up Appendix 3

We also welcome volunteers to work with us and can offer opportunities for our volunteers to gain accredited learning qualifications, for example, SQA Volunteering Skills Award Qualification. View our Volunteering website.
